The final social media post of New York mother Jamey Carney shows her smiling beside the man now identified by Irish authorities as the prime suspect in her killing, casting a haunting shadow over what appeared to be a joyful celebration.
Carney, 43, had recently relocated to Killarney in southwest Ireland, where she was building a new life with her teenage daughter. In her last public post, she posed with her boyfriend, 28-year-old asylum seeker Ahmad Alsaqer, in front of an AI-generated Times Square backdrop. She wore a New York Knicks shirt, he a New York Giants top, as she captioned the image, “Happy 4th y’all.”
Days later, Carney’s 13-year-old daughter discovered her mother’s body in their rented home. According to police sources, Carney had been beaten to death and left concealed under a duvet. The bedroom was reportedly spattered with blood, and investigators believe she suffered catastrophic head injuries in what they described as a prolonged and brutal assault.
Irish police have named Alsaqer as the suspect and say he fled Killarney shortly after the killing. He is believed to have boarded an early-morning bus to Dublin before catching a last-minute flight to Istanbul. Authorities are now tracking his movements and examining possible contacts in Turkey and France, where he is thought to have previously lived, as well as in the United Kingdom.
Alsaqer arrived in Ireland in 2024 seeking asylum and is understood to have met Carney not long afterward. Friends say the relationship quickly became central to her life. On social media, Carney frequently shared images and videos of the couple together, including footage from a pro-Palestinian rally in Ireland where both wore traditional keffiyeh scarves. In affectionate captions, she referred to him as her “moon/qamar” and described herself as his “flower/warda,” joking about “dating an Arab” and documenting her efforts at learning Arabic.
Carney, who worked in the healthcare sector, had been outspoken online about international issues and appeared deeply invested in her partner’s background and culture. Now, those same posts form part of a chilling digital trail as investigators piece together the final days of her life.
Irish police have confirmed that the suspect has left the country and are working with international partners amid concerns he may attempt to travel onward from Turkey to Jordan or Syria. The investigation continues as Carney’s family and community grapple with the loss of a mother whose last public words were a simple holiday greeting, shared beside the man now accused of ending her life.
