We are born supernatural and extraordinary.
The world is filled with people who are talented in sports, entertainment, science, and the arts. You can name them; they often seem far from reality in their brilliance.
During my junior year in secondary school, I had a friend, Lisa, with whom I often talked. She mostly complained that she wasn’t talented, and I always wondered why. Could it be that she wasn’t aware that she was actually talented? She was a good runner and intelligent, I had never met someone with a sharp mind like hers. Or maybe she felt it wasn’t enough. It’s not just about my friend. I’ve found myself thinking the same lately. Maybe you have too, the feeling that you don’t have enough, or that what you have doesn’t really matter.
This reminds me of the parable of the master who gave his servants talents: to one he gave five, to another two, and to the last one, just one. When the master returned, the first two had made good use of their talents and gained more. But the last servant, who was given one, dug a hole and hid it. When the master returned, he was displeased with him and happy with the two faithful servants who used the talents given to them.
Sometimes we act like that last servant.
We don’t see the value of what we have, and underestimate its importance, we doubt ourselves. We compare ourselves with others who seem to have more, and we begin to think that what we have is too small to make a difference.
So, we bury our talents in fear and self-doubt, and end up living in unfulfillment and emptiness because we fail to see the value in what we already possess.
As we grow older, many of us discover one or two things we are naturally good at, things we are passionate about. Because you were not born empty. Inside you lies a treasury that is yet to be explored. You just need to take the first step to accept who you are and what you have been given.
The great people of history, Leonardo da Vinci, Elon Musk, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Lionel Messi, and Simone Biles, all started somewhere. When we see them today, we are filled with awe. We call them extraordinary, unique, gifted, because they made good use of what they were given.
You too can do the same.
You are extraordinary, not because of what you wish you had, but because of what is already within you.
What you need to do is work, work on yourself.
Talents are natural, but they need to be nurtured.
Start using your talent before it’s too late, and there’s nothing to show for it.
