SCENE 1 - AFTER DELIVERY
INT. MATERNITY WARD - PRIVATE ROOM - DAY
Soft sunlight fills the clean, clinical room.
MRS. ADEBAYO (30s) lies in bed, sweating lightly, looking exhausted but peaceful. A newborn cries softly in a bassinet beside her.
The door opens.
SHARON (20s, nurse) enters with a tray.
SHARON
Good afternoon, Mrs. Adebayo. Congratulations. I'm here to administer your injection.
MRS. ADEBAYO (weak smile)
Thank you... please go ahead.
She squints.
MRS. ADEBAYO
What injection?
SHARON
Ergot.
SCENE 2 - THE OBSERVATION
INT. MATERNITY WARD - CONTINUOUS - DAY
Close-up on the syringe. The liquid inside is distinctly brown. Cut to Mrs. Adebayo. Her tired expression shifts to a frown.
MRS. ADEBAYO
Wait... can I see that syringe?
SHARON
Of course.
She holds it out.
MRS. ADEBAYO (studying it)
This doesn't look like ergot.
SCENE 3 - THE KNOWLEDGE
INT. MATERNITY WARD - CONTINUOUS - DAY
SHARON (slightly defensive)
It is ergot, ma.
MRS. ADEBAYO (calm but firm)
I'm a nurse too. Ergot is usually whitish or clear. Not brown.
SHARON
Sometimes medications look different depending on the batch.
MRS. ADEBAYO (shaking head)
No. Ergot is given after delivery to contract the uterus and prevent postpartum hemorrhage. If this isn't ergot, and you inject it, do you understand what could happen?
SCENE 4 - REFUSAL
Mrs. Adebayo pulls her arm away, tucking her hand under the sheet.
MRS. ADEBAYO
I won't take that injection.
SHARON (irritated)
Madam, I'm trained for this. Please don't make this difficult.
MRS. ADEBAYO
I'm not making it difficult. I'm protecting myself.
SCENE 5 - ESCALATION
INT. MATERNITY WARD - CONTINUOUS - DAY
SHARON
It's the correct medication.
MRS. ADEBAYO (voice stronger)
Then show me the vial. Check the label again.
SHARON
I already checked it.
MRS. ADEBAYO
If something goes wrong, if I start bleeding excessively or react to the wrong injection, will you take responsibility?
The room goes silent. Sharon hesitates.
SHARON
Nothing will happen.
MRS. ADEBAYO
That's not an answer.
SCENE 6 - THE MATRON ARRIVES
INT. MATERNITY WARD - CONTINUOUS - DAY
The door opens wider. MERCY (50s, matron) enters, calm and authoritative.
MERCY
What is going on here?
SHARON (relieved but nervous)
Ma, she's refusing her ergot injection.
MRS. ADEBAYO
Ma, the injection she brought is brown. Ergot is not brown. I requested that she recheck it.
SCENE 7 - AUTHORITY STEPS IN
INT. MATERNITY WARD - CONTINUOUS - DAY
MERCY (serious, extending hand)
Sharon, bring the vial.
Sharon hesitates.
SHARON
Yes, ma.
Mercy takes the small vial and holds it up to the light, examining the label and brown liquid inside.
MERCY (frowning deeply)
Sharon... this is not ergot.
SCENE 8 - THE DISCOVERY
INT. MATERNITY WARD - CONTINUOUS - DAY
SHARON (eyes widening)
Ma... I must have picked...
MERCY (firmly)
You picked the wrong medication. This is a completely different injection.
Mrs. Adebayo closes her eyes briefly. Relief washes over her face.
SCENE 9 - ACCOUNTABILITY
INT. MATERNITY WARD - CONTINUOUS - DAY
MERCY (to Sharon)
This is negligence. You do not administer medication without verifying the name, dosage, and patient.
SHARON (embarrassed, head down)
I'm sorry, ma.
SCENE 10 - RESOLUTION
INT. MATERNITY WARD - CONTINUOUS - DAY
MERCY (turning to Mrs. Adebayo with respect)
Mrs. Adebayo, we sincerely apologize. Thank you for speaking up.
MRS. ADEBAYO
I understand mistakes happen. But in medicine, small mistakes can cost lives.
MERCY
We will prepare the correct ergot now.
MRS. ADEBAYO
I would like it prepared in front of me, please.
MERCY (nodding)
That is your right.
INT. MATERNITY WARD - CONTINUOUS - DAY
Final shot: the correct, clear liquid is drawn into a new syringe. The baby sleeps peacefully.
