Envy is green
It’s the colour we’ve always known
It’s the colour it’s always been
But how did it come to be?
Of that I am unsure
Why not blue, black or perhaps still, marine?
But alas, I digress the matter at hand
Emotions are numerous
As numerous as sand
Envy is green and sadness is blue
Anger is red
But love is too
Each emotion is coloured
They look just how they feel
Some are simply spoken
And others all but hollered
But regret is an emotion
One you don’t really feel
You taste it on your tongue
And it is bitter but real
“Why hadn’t I done…?” or “Why didn’t I do..?”
Have difficult answers
Even if you’re a Guru
I wonder what colour it would
If at all it had one
Whether yellow or black as a day without sun
Regret is the thing holding us back
From good things and good dreams
And work without slack
Oh that I might discard it
And never have to think
On why I made mistakes
And on what might have been.
