“Shall we go?” I gestured to the car and she nodded. I offered her a hand.
“Yes, sure.” She assured me, taking my hand. I walked her to the car and helped her get in before going around to the driver’s seat.
For those few minutes of magic with Angelina, I forgot about Summer and I was glad I didn’t come along with her.
Angelina and I were having dessert when my phone began to vibrate. I quickly looked at the caller ID. It was Conner.
Could he be calling to ask my whereabouts? Or was it something else? I wondered as I looked at the screen of the phone. I would be home in less than twenty minutes, whatever it was, it could wait. I told myself, ignoring the call. I looked up and met Angelina’s gaze.
“Sorry about that,” I apologized, with a smile.
“It’s fine.” She assured me, taking a bite of her apple pie. I picked my glass and raised it to my mouth for a sip of the wine when my phone began to vibrate again. I looked and it was Conner again. Angelina and I locked eyes.
“Go ahead, I think you should take it.” She suggested and I hesitated a little.
“Sure you don’t mind?” I asked her.
“Yeah.” She confirmed and I picked the call and placed the phone on my ear without saying a word. Conner’s deep voice answered in a few words and a frown appeared on my face as my heart stopped beating instantly. The spoon I was holding with my left hand dropped loudly on the plate and I got up from the table within seconds, not bothered by the gaze of the people around. I ended the call and brought out my wallet immediately.
