A Saturday Without Social Media: What Would You Actually Do? - 1wk ago

Imagine waking up on Saturday morning and not opening WhatsApp.

No Instagram.

No TikTok.

No Facebook.

No X.

No checking who viewed your status. No scrolling through other people's breakfast, outfits, relationships, vacations, arguments, achievements and problems.

Just you and your Saturday.

At first, it might feel strangely quiet.

You may pick up your phone several times out of habit before remembering that there is nothing to scroll through.

And then something interesting happens.

You begin to notice how much time you actually have.

You could clean your room without stopping every few minutes to check your phone. You could prepare something nice to eat. You could read a book you abandoned months ago. You could visit someone. Take a walk. Listen to music. Sleep.

You might even sit down and think.

That sounds simple, but many of us have become uncomfortable with silence. The moment there is nothing happening, we reach for our phones.

Social media isn't necessarily the problem. The problem is when it becomes the automatic answer to every moment of boredom.

Bored?

Scroll.

Eating?

Scroll.

Waiting for someone?

Scroll.

About to sleep?

Scroll.

Wake up?

Scroll.

What would happen if, just for one Saturday, you resisted that reflex?

You might discover that your life is actually more interesting when you're participating in it rather than constantly watching everybody else's.

You don't have to delete your accounts.

You don't have to become anti-social.

Just experiment.

Give yourself one Saturday without the endless scrolling.

Then ask yourself at night:

“What did I do with the time I normally give to my phone?”

Your answer might surprise you.
