There was a family. Their father left and returned in different clothes. Arriving in red and white was his way of delighting the children, knowing how much the cheerful season meant to them. Through his actions, the child he once was shone brightly that day. Despite recent hardships, the importance of family overshadowed any disappointment.

He walked through the merry neighborhood, the sounds of cheers hanging in the air, as children ran about with friends, resembling Santa’s reindeer. Although the children hadn’t noticed their father’s return, he kept his costume on, eagerly awaiting their reaction.

Mother, however, could see through his smile, an ability the children had yet to master. Her intuition was a virtue. Yes, it was true; he had been laid off work just that day. In the safety of their home and the comfort of his wife’s arms, man was allowed to shed tears.

Fulfilling the promise she made to remain by his side for better or worse, Her unwavering love served as a reminder of their resilience, proving time and time again that together, they could overcome any obstacle.

She whispered, "We'll get through this, love … We always have" and with those words, Father regained strength.

These were difficult times, and every soul carried memories of their struggles. They had crawled out from dark corners, enduring the toughness the months had put them through, both the broken and the lowly.

As twilight crept in and homes were filled with warmth, the children rushed into their father’s arms, finally noticing his costume. Their ecstatic reaction brought a genuine smile to his face—mission accomplished. Mother was there too and the joy in her eyes were palpable. These little ones were his Christmas miracle, their love soothing his inner turmoil, how else could one handle all these. The children were young and had no real worries, the beauty of the season was indeed in the eyes of a child.

One day, when these little ones are old enough, they will know everything and be grateful, but for now, they must be spared certain truths.

Dinner was served, the aroma of roast beef filing the air, and as they gathered together, Father took the massive piece of beef and blessed it and tore it and shared it among them. From that moment on, nothing else was said. They savored the silent night, united in peace and happiness on that special day, the 25th.

Many other stories remained to be told, stories of both triumph and struggle, all with their own reasons for gratitude.
