A leisure trip to an Abuja hotel has turned into a nightmare for a Nigerian man after the woman he lodged with allegedly disappeared with his car and several valuable items.

The man, whose identity is being withheld by authorities, had checked into a hotel in the upscale Asokoro district of the Federal Capital Territory with a young woman identified as Precious Chinyere. According to police sources, the pair booked the room for a short stay, intending to spend only a few hours together.

Hotel staff told investigators that nothing appeared unusual when the couple arrived. They checked in without incident, and there were no signs of disagreement or distress that might have foreshadowed what followed.

Later that evening, the man reportedly stepped into the bathroom. When he emerged, Precious was nowhere to be found. At first, he assumed she had briefly stepped out, but minutes turned into an hour, and attempts to reach her by phone failed.

It was then he made a startling discovery: his phones and laptop were missing. Rushing outside, he realized his car was also gone from the hotel premises. Investigators believe the suspect may have left the room quietly, taken the car key and other items, and driven away without raising suspicion.

The man reported the incident to a nearby police station in Abuja the following morning, providing officers with details of the suspect, the vehicle, and the stolen items. The car’s registration number and description have since been circulated among patrol units and neighboring commands.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the case is under active investigation. She said detectives are working to track down the suspect and recover the stolen property, adding that preliminary efforts include reviewing hotel CCTV footage and tracing digital footprints linked to the missing devices.

Police have urged members of the public to exercise caution when meeting acquaintances in private locations and to promptly report suspicious behavior. Meanwhile, the victim is said to be cooperating fully with investigators as he grapples with the shock of seeing what was meant to be a brief romantic encounter turn into a costly betrayal.
