NAFDAC Destroys ₦15 Billion Worth Of Fake And Expired Drugs In Ibadan - 2 months ago

In a bold move to safeguard public health, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday incinerated counterfeit, expired, substandard, and falsified drugs and related products with an estimated market value of ₦15 billion in Ibadan, Oyo State. The destruction, carried out at the Moniya dumpsite, was overseen by NAFDAC’s Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Dr. Martins Iluyomade, standing in for Director General Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye. 

Among the items destroyed were Analgin, Co-codamol, codeine based cough syrups, Tramadol, Oxytocin, vaccines, and other unregistered or banned medicines  which were all considered high risk if circulated.  Adeyeye’s office reaffirmed NAFDAC’s commitment to ensuring that foods, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, chemicals, packaged water, and beverages are safe and effective for consumption, urging Nigerians to stay vigilant against unlicensed distributors.
