MY ROLE AS LOCATION MANAGER AND PROPS - 2wks ago

In this production, I understand my role as both the Location Manager and Props Manager to be central to the visual storytelling of our project. As the Location Manager, I serve as the bridge between the script and the physical spaces that bring the narrative to life. Every scene depends on finding the right environment, and it is my responsibility to identify, secure, and prepare these places so that they match the director’s vision. As Props Manager, I ensure that every object used on set—whether big or small—supports the believability of each moment and reflects the world the characters live in.

To approach my role effectively, I plan to begin with a detailed breakdown of the script, listing every required location and the props associated with each scene. From there, I will scout the school environment to find practical, accessible, and visually fitting locations such as classrooms, the hostel room, the notice board area, the school compound, and the studio for presentations. For props, I will gather items early, label and organize them, and keep a checklist to avoid confusion during production. Communication with the director and other crew members will guide my decisions so that my work aligns with the overall creative direction.

However, I foresee challenges that may arise, especially regarding access to certain locations and the availability of specific props. Some areas may be crowded or temporarily inaccessible, while some props may be hard to find or require creative improvisation. There may also be scheduling conflicts with other groups or school activities that could affect our filming plans.

To overcome these challenges, I intend to prepare backup locations, secure permissions ahead of time, and create a flexible shooting schedule that accommodates changes. For props, I will source alternatives, craft simple replacements if necessary, and keep duplicates of essential items. By staying organized, planning ahead, and maintaining constant communication with the team, I will ensure that both locations and props contribute smoothly and effectively to the success of our production.
