Chapter 3: The Mysterious Stalker
Investigator Alex Thompson was determined to uncover the identity of Emily's stalker. She reviewed the security footage at the hospital, but it showed nothing suspicious. She interviewed Emily's colleagues again, but no one seemed to have any information.
As she was about to leave the hospital, Alex received a call from an unknown number. "Investigator Thompson, you're getting close to the truth," a menacing voice said. "But you'll never catch me."
Alex's heart raced. "Who is this?" she demanded.
The voice laughed. "You'll find out soon enough. Look for the one who was closest to Emily."
Alex's mind raced. Who was closest to Emily? She thought about Emily's colleagues, her friends, her family. And then it hit her - the one person who had been consistently evasive and secretive.
She called her team and told them to bring Mark, the doctor, in for questioning. As they sat him down in the interrogation room, Alex could see the guilt written all over his face.
"Mark, we know you were stalking Emily," Alex said, her voice firm but controlled. "It's over. You might as well tell us the truth."
Mark's eyes dropped, and he nodded. "I didn't mean to hurt her. I just loved her so much."
Alex's eyes narrowed. "Love? You call stalking and murder love?"
Mark's eyes flashed with anger. "You don't understand. Emily was mine. She was supposed to be mine."
Alex's team moved in, handcuffing Mark and reading him his rights. As they took him away, Alex couldn't help but feel a sense of relief. Justice had been served.
But as she left the hospital, she couldn't shake off the feeling that there was still something missing. Something that didn't quite add up.
