Tyler Perry has people in their feelings once again, since the release of his Netflix movie Straw, which stars a couple of household names in Hollywood like; Taraji P Henson, Sherri shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Sinbad and Glynn Turman.
With Taraji as Janiyah the conflicted protagonist, a single mother to seven year old Aria who is battling health issues. Janiyah was kind despite her financial adversity.
Of all the reviews and criticism giving, everyone agreed on the range of emotions the movie evokes.
Now to this part, towards the end of the movie, in the bank, were Janiyah heartbroken, narrated her story to cop though the phone as she held the a gun and her daughters project which was mistaken for a bomb by Nicole, Nicole's kindness to Janiyah was no longer fear motivated, but of compassion, and empathy bec after listeing to her story.
But what if she had listened earlier? when Janiyah tried to close her account and cash her $51, but was told to join the que, and when she tried explaining her situation, Nicole cut her off and paid no attention to anything she had to say. If she had been kind enough to even listen, and eventually helping her cash the $41, things might just have gone differently
You might read this and wonder, why making a fuss over a movie? But you see things like this also happens in reality, alot of people have turned thieves, prositutes and some even committing suicide because no one would listen to them when they cried for help. Until when it's too late and you help can't make any difference.
It's true that everyone has problems, but when you consider listening to another person's problem, you realize that compared to what just heard, you don't really have a problem. janiyah's story invoked gratitude in Nicole, reminding her of the blessings in her life.
