The Quiet Kitchen
During the month of Ramadan, the kitchen in our house becomes the busiest place. A few hours before iftar, everyone starts moving around. Pots are on the fire and plates are on the table. The sound of spoons hitting bowls fills the room.
I like standing in the kitchen at that time. It is loud, but somehow i find it quite peaceful
Me and my two sisters do the cooking, Since I am the oldest in the kitchen, everyone expects me to handle it. My 12-year-old sister stands nearby and tries to act brave around the hot oil, but I can see the fear in the way she steps back when it starts to splash.
The smell of the kosai spreads through the house, and people slowly start coming closer to the kitchen.
But my favorite moment is right before the adhan. Everything suddenly becomes quiet. We sit together and wait.
Then the call to prayer begins, and then its finally time for iftar
