Biography of (Paul Adepoju)
Paul Adepoju is a Nigerian scientist-turned-journalist and communications expert with extensive experience reporting on science, health, technology, development, and the intersections between them. Over the years, he has built a distinguished career telling Africa-focused stories that are often ignored or underreported, contributing to major international science and health publications.
He currently works with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) as the Community Manager for the ICFJ Pamela Howard Forum on Global Crisis Reporting, where he supports journalists around the world in strengthening their crisis reporting skills and improving coverage of global emergencies.
Throughout his career, Paul has worked as a freelance journalist for several prestigious publications, including the British Medical Journal, Business Insider, Devex, CNN, Scientific American, New Scientist, Quartz, Nature, The Lancet, and Health Policy Watch, among others. He also contributes to Harvard Public Health Magazine and leads the editorial team at Nigeria’s foremost health news platform, Healthnews.ng, where he coordinates editorial activities and commissions stories from a wide network of journalists.
Paul holds a PhD in Cell Biology and Genetics from Nigeria’s premier university, the University of Ibadan. His work has earned him numerous recognitions, including the 2021 Online News Association (ONA) Community Award for supporting journalists in 134 countries in covering the COVID-19 pandemic. He also received the Association of British Science Writers Monthly Showcase Award for excellence in science writing in July and September 2022, alongside several reporting grants.
Beyond reporting, Paul is actively involved in mentoring journalists and has participated in various fellowships and professional training programmes. He has attended, spoken at, and moderated sessions at several major science and health conferences worldwide.
