A Flicker Of Hope - Yesterday

Staring blankly at her empty closet, once filled with dresses of colours that contradict her feelings. Mira was always one to hide what she feels inside due to fear of societal rejection and judgement, she even pulled up a smile even in the face of her abusers, but not today. She was finally going to let it all go. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Daniels, who never supported her in anything she did, her ex boyfriend, Damian, whom she dated for close to three years, who promised her everything but when she needed him most, he became part of the things she needed healing from, herself.

After packing her things, without a goodbye she drove away from everything, everyone.. but one. She was going to end it by midnight behind a bridge where no one would find her body. She wrote letters to everyone who she cared about, her friends, Milo and Jess and her only sister, faith and left it in her car in the middle of the road hoping they would be found.

Standing on the bridge remembering and holding on to the pains that remained hooked in her brain, being sexually molested by her uncles at a young age, depression, panic attacks triggered by the thought of her parents, her abusive ex boyfriend telling her parents she was a lesbian, the death of her best friend and therapist, her blog , written books she never got to publish because of the fear of her parents finding out, her inner self. But she will be free. The words of her parents and ex boyfriend ringing in her head as she walked out on them "you will be back" right after spitting on her as she walked past.

It was finally midnight, she was ready..but a pause. She just stood and listened to the night, for the first time there was no noise anywhere, not even her head, dead silence. Memories of times when she was full of light, times where she was genuinely happy, images of her bright smile when she writes, laughter with her friends, all good and no bad. She took a step back, a flicker of hope in her eyes as she smiled to the light of the moon. She spoke as though she was speaking to someone "nothing you do will make me stay alive" ... "Yes it will" she looked to where the voice came from and she knew she was meant to be startled, but instead tears rolled down her cheeks as she ran towards the figure of her best friend who was supposed to be dead. Am I dead too? Did you come back to life? How is this possible? I love you Shey, she spoke non stop despite the questions flooding her mind. "I need you to be alive and safe, stop focusing on the negative and try to be full of the life you have a chance to live, forgive all and let to Mira, live for the both of us, that's my final wish, make the best out of it and make yourself and me proud" Shey's voice spoke in a whisper as she faded away. Confused why she wasn't scared, Mira wiping her tears went back to her car and drove to the apartment that was meant for her and Shey. She unblocked her parents and opened up about things she had been living with all these years, it doesn't help to bottle up feelings, she accepted what she felt and she deserved closure. Although she didn't expect them to understand, they promised to try to be better. She also texted her ex, cursed more like, he wasn't happy about her success but he was never happy about anything that concerned her so she didn't really care.. but she forgave him, she forgave them all. She also apologized to herself and her friends for trying to end her life, it wasn't fair to them since they all try to make her feel better in their own little ways. Not knowing where the empowerment came from, she was filled with hope that life has better things in-store for her, she wanted to be sad but she decided to use herself as a vessel for every growing adult and teen struggling with traumas. A sign of hope to live because life is worth living. She was just sad she had to lose someone to figure it out.
