The All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his open support for the party’s candidates ahead of political activities in the territory. The ruling party insists that the former Rivers State governor is exercising his constitutional right to freely associate and campaign for any political platform of his choice, regardless of previous affiliations.

Party officials noted that political participation is a fundamental democratic right that cannot be restricted by party loyalty or past political alignments. According to the APC, Wike’s involvement in supporting its candidates within the FCT does not violate any law and reflects the fluid nature of Nigeria’s evolving political landscape, where alliances often shift based on interest and ideology.

The party further emphasized that democracy thrives when individuals are allowed to make independent political decisions without intimidation or undue pressure. It maintained that Wike’s stance should be viewed as part of the broader democratic process rather than a source of controversy, adding that political engagement across party lines remains lawful within Nigeria’s constitutional framework.
