Man Allegedly Stabs Cousin To Death, Injures Two In Adamawa Community - 1wk ago

The Adamawa State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a man identified as Begam Damdam, who is accused of fatally stabbing his cousin and injuring two others during a violent altercation in the Tingno District of Lamurde Local Government Area.

The incident occurred in Garin Maitunku, a rural community in the district, where residents say a heated misunderstanding erupted between Damdam and his cousin, Kawarijo Thomas. What began as a domestic dispute reportedly escalated rapidly, ending in bloodshed.

Witnesses told investigators that Damdam allegedly attacked Thomas with a sharp object, stabbing him in the chest. Thomas collapsed at the scene and was later confirmed dead. In the chaos that followed, two other men, identified as Thomas Demdem and Robert Yohanna, were also stabbed on their hands as they reportedly tried to intervene or flee from the scene.

Police authorities said officers from the Tingno Division received a distress call and arrived at the community shortly after the attack. The victims were evacuated to the General Hospital in Numan, where medical personnel pronounced Thomas dead and placed the two injured men under treatment.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the hospital morgue for autopsy, as investigators work to piece together the exact circumstances that led to the confrontation. The injuries sustained by Demdem and Yohanna were described as serious but not life-threatening.

The Adamawa State Police Command has ordered a discreet investigation, assigning the Criminal Investigation Department to the case. Detectives are gathering statements from eyewitnesses and family members, while also tracing the movements of the fleeing suspect.

Police spokespersons have appealed to residents of Lamurde and neighbouring communities to provide any information that could lead to Damdam’s arrest, assuring that the identity of informants will be protected. The command also urged the public to remain calm and allow law enforcement to carry out its work.

The killing has sent shockwaves through Garin Maitunku, where both the suspect and the deceased were known members of the community. Local leaders are calling for restraint and cooperation with security agencies as the investigation continues.
