THE DOOR YOU DIDN'T SEE - 8 hours ago

Someone once said to me, “Don't be so stuck staring at a closed door that you don't realise another door has been opened.”

And that got me thinking.

Because many times, we are all victims of this.

We are human, and we have expectations.

This will work out.
This job will click.
The money will come.
This relationship will work.
This thing will finally happen for me.

And then, suddenly, we are met with disappointment.

And it hurts.

It hurts so badly that the last thing you want to hear is, “Every disappointment is a blessing in disguise.”

Please, if anybody even brings that advice near you at that moment, you are ready to fight. 😂

Because sometimes, you don't want to hear about the blessing. You just want to acknowledge that you are disappointed.

But then, something else happens.

We become so stuck looking at what didn't work out that we fail to notice what might be opening right in front of us.

We stare at the closed door for so long that we forget to look around.

It could be in our academics.
Our finances.
Our careers.
Our relationships.
A job opportunity we had been waiting for.
Something we prayed for that didn't happen.

And because we wanted that particular thing so badly, when it doesn't work out, we begin to revolve all our thoughts around it.

Why didn't it work?
What did I do wrong?
Why me?
I thought this was finally going to happen.

And while we are busy grieving the closed door, another door might have quietly opened.

But we don't see it.

We are too busy looking at what we lost.

And then this person said something that really got me thinking.

You can stare at a closed door for so long that another door opens, and you don't even realise it opened until it closes again.

Think about that.

What if the second opportunity was even better than the first one?

What if the thing you were so heartbroken about losing was not the only opportunity meant for you?

What if, while you were busy asking, “Why did this door close?”, life was quietly presenting you with another door?

And because you never looked up, you missed it too.

Now, you haven't just lost one opportunity.

You have lost two.

I am not saying disappointment isn't painful.

It is.

Sometimes, you need to sit with it. You need to acknowledge that something you genuinely wanted didn't work out. You don't have to force yourself to be okay immediately.

But eventually, look up.

Look around you.

There may be another door.

There may be another opportunity.

There may be something you haven't noticed because your eyes are still fixed on what you lost.

So, today, I'm reminding you of what someone once told me:

Don't be so stuck staring at a closed door that you fail to realise another door has been opened.

And please, don't grieve the old door for so long that you miss the new one until it closes too.

Sometimes, the door you are crying over is not the end of the story.

Sometimes, you just need to look up and see what else has opened.
