Arsenal Send A Warning With Community Shield Win - 3 hours ago

Title-holders Arsenal delivered a statement performance in the Community Shield, thumping Manchester City 3-0 in Cardiff to send a warning to their Premier League rivals.

The Gunners stunned City after just 23 seconds when Myles Lewis-Skelly's sublime pass found Riccardo Calafiori, who calmly opened the scoring. It was a nightmare start for new City boss Enzo Maresca.

Arsenal's £34m summer signing Christos Tzolis then created the next two goals. His cross allowed Kai Havertz to force the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma before he found captain Martin Odegaard, who made it 3-0 just three minutes after half-time.

Donnarumma endured a difficult afternoon, while City's defence looked vulnerable. Arsenal, meanwhile, were far more composed at the back despite conceding eight goals during pre-season.

Their determination was clear when David Raya saved from Erling Haaland, Lewis-Skelly reached the rebound and Ben White threw himself in front of a Jeremy Doku shot.

Haaland and £116m Elliot Anderson were withdrawn after disappointing performances, while Rodri's absence was also felt.

For Arteta and Arsenal, the victory provides a huge confidence boost as they chase back-to-back Premier League titles for the first time in 91 years.

The Community Shield is no guarantee of league success, but Arsenal's dominant display has certainly sent a message: they are ready to defend their crown.
