The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has lined up an exciting international window for the Super Eagles, confirming high profile friendlies against Poland and Portugal this June and it is already shaping up to be a revealing test for the team.

Nigeria will first face Poland on June 3 at the iconic PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw. A week later, they will take on Portugal on June 10, although the venue for that clash is still under wraps. One thing is certain, all eyes will be on Portugal’s talisman, Cristiano Ronaldo, as he leads his side in what will be their final tune up ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to FIFA Match Agent “Jairo Pachon of Eurodata Sport”, these fixtures are part of a deliberate push to keep the Super Eagles competitive on the global stage. In a chat with ESPN, he emphasized the importance of arranging quality opposition during every FIFA window, a strategy that seems to be paying off.

Interestingly, both Nigeria and Poland will be watching this year’s World Cup from home, adding a subtle edge to their encounter. Meanwhile, Portugal will use their meeting with the Super Eagles as a crucial stepping stone before heading to North America for football’s biggest tournament.

NFF’s Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, also backed the significance of the upcoming fixtures, pointing to Nigeria’s recent performances in Antalya, Turkey. There, the Super Eagles impressed with a win over Iran and a draw against Jordan, both nations bound for the World Cup. Those games, originally scheduled as part of a four nation tournament in Amman, had to be relocated due to regional tensions, but Nigeria still made a strong statement.

Pachon also acknowledged the smooth collaboration behind the scenes, praising the federations involved for their trust and cooperation in bringing these matches to life.

Before the June action kicks off, the Super Eagles will make a return to London to defend their Unity Cup title, won last summer. The tournament is slated for May 26 to 30, although participating teams are yet to be announced.

For Nigeria, three time African champions, this stretch of fixtures carries added weight. Having missed out on both the 2022 and upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cups, these matches offer more than just preparation, they are a chance to rebuild momentum, restore pride, and remind the football world of the Super Eagles’ pedigree.
