Everyone knew Amara as the slim girl with the bright smile, she was intelligent,soft-spoken and full of dreams.
She was the kind of girl teachers spoke proudly about, the kind of daughter parents prayed for.
But people rarely spoke about her without mentioning her body.
“Why are you this skinny?”
“Don’t they feed you at home?”
“You look like a broomstick.”
At first, she laughed with them,at least that’s what it looked like. But slowly,
the jokes stopped sounding harmless.
Every comment stayed longer in her mind.
Every laugh became heavier.
Every mirror became harder to look at.
And one day, she was tired of feeling “not enough,”
Amara made a desperate decision to change herself.
A decision her body could not survive.
And suddenly, the same people who mocked her body were posting,"Rest in peace.”
Life can be painfully ironic.
Because sometimes, people don’t realize the damage words can do until it is too late.
Body shaming is not “just jokes.”
Not everyone is strong enough to carry constant criticism.
Some wounds don’t bleed outside, they bleed quietly within. So before you laugh at someone’s appearance,
before you make another “harmless” comment…
Remember that people are already fighting battles
you cannot see.
Be kind with your words because they can save a life…or slowly destroy one.
