A culinary experience at a Michelin-starred restaurant is always a splurge, but nowhere is it pricier than in Copenhagen. According to an analysis by Chef’s Pencil, which reviewed the menus of 3,517 Michelin-starred establishments worldwide, Denmark's capital stands out as the most expensive city for fine dining. Diners in Copenhagen can expect to pay an average of 400 euros ($430) per person for dinner at one of its 14 Michelin-starred restaurants.
Following Copenhagen, Macao comes in as the second-most expensive city for Michelin-starred meals, averaging 265 euros per person. Known for its dense concentration of high-end dining establishments, Macao is a destination where visitors might find themselves spending their winnings from the casino on an exquisite meal.
Other notable cities where Michelin-starred dining comes at a premium include Hong Kong, San Francisco, and Dubai, each averaging around $259 per person. Despite its reputation as a luxury destination, Dubai manages to offer relatively moderate prices for its top-tier dining experiences compared to Copenhagen and Macao.

For those who prefer their gourmet experiences without breaking the bank, there are more budget-friendly options available. Vietnam stands out as a particularly affordable destination for Michelin-starred meals, with an average cost of $130. Restaurants like Chả Cá Anh Vũ in Hanoi offer exquisite dining experiences at a fraction of the cost of their European counterparts.
Brazil also offers relatively affordable Michelin-starred dining, with cities like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro offering tasting menus for about $131. Similarly, in Europe, Malta and Greece provide high-end dining experiences at much lower prices. Malta, with its five Michelin-starred restaurants, averages just 125 euros ($134) per person, making it an attractive destination for luxury dining at a more accessible price.

Whether splurging in the luxurious settings of Macao and Dubai or savoring affordable gourmet dishes in Vietnam and Brazil, there’s a Michelin-starred meal for every budget. So, while the rich may flock to Malta and Greece to enjoy fine dining without the hefty price tag, others might find their culinary adventures in the more costly but undeniably prestigious restaurants of Copenhagen.
