Angel sits on her bed while watching a movie on her laptop. She’s done with work for the week and she can look forward to the weekend. She would have some time for herself.
Angel is the ideal “chocolate and caramel” girl. She has those eyes that screamed seduction. If you stared too long, you could drown in the ocean of her gaze, or even turn to stone. She had these lips that looked like a whole snack, and whenever she applied her signature lip combo, they were simply irresistible.
Angel knows how to make a fashion statement. Everyone’s eyes were always at the entrance to see what the department’s fashion icon would serve on that particular day, and she never disappointed. Her hair was always on point, whether it was synthetic wigs or she decided to go natural.
It seemed Angel’s life was perfect. She’s confused. She’s at a crucial stage of her life and she has no idea of what to do. She doesn’t trust her instincts because they let her down in the past. As a result, she always second-guessed her decisions. Angel is a 31-year-old woman who is scared of making life-changing decisions. She however decided to ignore love and relationships because her relationships never ended well.
Her mind wanders. She began her first official relationship when she was in her second year in the university; Felix had just graduated. Felix was light-skinned (All these light-skinned boys will stain your white!). His most attractive feature was his face. It seemed to be perfect from the eyes to the lips, down to the jawline. Naive little girl had a taste of affection from a man for the first time, of course she fell head over heels. He gave her everything she felt she would want in a relationship, including sexual intimacy. It was a cold night and she had come to sleep over in his apartment. It wasn’t the first time she was sleeping over but Felix never asked for sex. She thought this was a sign of true love. He kissed her deeply on his couch and few minutes later, he was on top of her, on his bed. The moment he was inside her, her face lit up. He began thrusting in and out. Angel felt like she had joined the other angels in heaven.
Felix began to withdraw. He came up with excuses that she naively believed. She eventually ended the relationship. She met Anthony. His face wasn't perfect. His nose was large, his face was round,and he even had irregular dentition. However, he was beautiful in the eyes of his beholder, Angel. He was tall! She had already graduated but Anthony was in his third year. She was five years older than Anthony. They never got into an official relationship because they never saw a future for the love they shared. She genuinely loved Anthony and he loved her in the same manner but the timing was terrible. They never had sex but they got to spend some time together, moments that will forever stay with her The sexual tension nearly drove her crazy. He called her “Adisa” fondly, the only person who ever called her that name. She doesn’t know where he is right now, but she believes that if it’s meant to be, it will be.
There were many others. The ones that cheated, the ones she cheated on. The ones who only cared about sex, the ones who prioritized space and distance over intimacy. The one who made her discover she adored oral sex, the one who she had sex with once and blocked on all platforms. She’s tired of everything related to love. She’s tired of the way some of the relationships made her feel. However, she knew at the back of her mind that if Anthony ever contacted her again and he was available, she would run back shamelessly into his arms and this time, into his bed.
Her phone beeps; it’s a notification. She picks up her phone and as soon as she sees the message, a tear drops from her eye. The content of the message: Hey Adisa.
