On Day 1, we started with something simple: a smile and a greeting. Today, on Day 2 of "The Common Thread," we move from words to action. Our theme today is "Charity and Compassion: Shared Values." When we look closely at different religions, we often find they share deep ethical roots. Almost every faith tradition in the world—including those we see represented in our communities—places a heavy emphasis on helping the vulnerable, feeding the hungry, and caring for neighbors in need. This means that acts of service are a powerful universal language. They are a common language we already speak. Compassion doesn't ask for a person's faith before offering help. Hunger feels the same, regardless of belief. By working together to solve shared community problems, we realize that we are more alike than we are different. Service unites us.
