THE FINAL GOAL
FADE IN:
EXT. FOOTBALL FIELD – LATE AFTERNOON – GOLDEN HOUR
Soft sunlight spills across a worn but lively community pitch. Children’s laughter and shouted instructions mix with the steady thump of a ball. The scoreboard tells a tense story: one goal apiece, only minutes remain.
A gentle, warm NARRATOR (voice-over) begins calm, almost like telling the story to a younger sibling.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Every champion has that one afternoon…
the one where the dream feels impossibly far away,
and the legs feel heavy, and the heart asks quietly:
“Do I really belong here?”
CLOSE on TUNDE (12, jersey #10), standing near the centre circle. Sweat on his brow. Eyes fixed on the ball at the kick-off. He’s been quiet most of the match.
NARRATOR (V.O.) (cont’d)
For Tunde, that afternoon was today.
SCENE 1
The COACH (blue cap, kind but intense) walks over just before the restart. He crouches slightly so he’s eye-level with Tunde.
COACH
(quiet, steady)
Tunde… look at me.
This game isn’t won by the fastest feet.
It’s won by the boy who still believes — even after everything goes wrong.
You still believe?
Tunde swallows, nods once.
TUNDE
(soft)
Yes, Coach.
COACH
Then go show them.
Tunde jogs back into position. The whistle blows.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
And so he ran.
SCENE 2
Quick montage: Tunde receives the ball. He weaves past one defender… another. The crowd noise swells.
TEAMMATE #1 (off-screen)
Tunde! You’ve got this!
SCENE 3
He reaches the edge of the box. Plants his foot. Strikes — clean, fierce.
The ball screams toward goal… but the keeper stretches, fingertips brushing it just wide.
TUNDE
(heartbroken shout)
No…!
He sinks to one knee, hands gripping his hair. The crowd exhales.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Sometimes the ball betrays you.
And sometimes… it feels like the whole world does too.
SCENE 4 – FIELD SIDE
Tunde sits alone on the grass. SOLA (#7) drops down beside him.
SOLA
(soft, no judgment)
Hey.
You hit that one sweeter than anyone I’ve seen.
The keeper just got lucky.
Next one’s yours.
Tunde stares at the ground.
TUNDE
What if there isn’t a next one?
SOLA
(grinning a little)
There’s always a next one… as long as you’re still standing.
He offers a fist. After a beat, Tunde bumps it.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
And sometimes all it takes is one friend who refuses to let you quit.
SCENE 5 – FINAL MINUTES
Clock: 35 seconds left.
Tunde gets the ball again. This time something’s different — his shoulders are looser, eyes sharper.
He accelerates. Skips a tackle. Enters the box.
One last defender lunges — Tunde lifts the ball over him in a delicate touch.
Now it’s just him… and the keeper.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
In that heartbeat between fear and courage…
he chose.
SCENE 6 – GOAL MOMENT
Tunde strikes. The ball rockets low and true — past diving hands — into the net.
SFX: Thwack!
The world explodes.
CROWD / TEAMMATES
GOOOOOAAAAALLLL!!!
Tunde spins away, arms wide, roaring.
TUNDE
YESSSSS!!!
SCENE 7 – CELEBRATION
Teammates swarm him — jumping, hugging, laughing.
SOLA
(shouting over the noise)
I told you! I told you!
TEAMMATE #2
You’re a beast, Tunde!
SCENE 8 – VICTORY CEREMONY
Tunde lifts the trophy high. Gold light catches the cup. His teammates surround him — arms around shoulders, pure joy.
NARRATOR (V.O.)
Some goals are just goals.
But this one…
this one was proof.
Proof that belief is louder than any miss,
stronger than any doubt,
and brighter than any scoreboard.
Final wide shot: the team together, trophy raised, sunlight behind them.
NARRATOR (V.O.) (soft)
And somewhere on that little pitch…
a boy learned he was enough.
FADE OUT.
