Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has been granted bail in the sum of ₦5 million by a Federal High Court in Abuja, where she is facing serious cyberstalking and criminal defamation charges. The bail order, delivered by Justice Emeka Nwite, also requires one responsible surety of similar financial standing to support her release as the matter proceeds to trial. Okorie has denied the allegations against her and will return to court when the case resumes.
Okorie was re-arraigned on a seven-count amended charge bordering on alleged cyberstalking, threats and harassment under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act. Prosecutors allege that she transmitted offensive and threatening messages via her social media platforms, including posts directed at fellow actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie that were deemed defamatory and intended to injure her reputation. Okorie entered a not-guilty plea, and the court heard arguments from both the defence and prosecution before the bail decision was made.
The judge set conditions for her bail to ensure Okorie’s presence at subsequent proceedings, including verification of the surety’s employment and residence, and submission of passport photographs to the court registry. The matter has been adjourned to March 23, 2026 for continuation of the trial, giving both sides time to prepare their cases as the legal process unfolds.
