Ring Opens Its AI ‘Search Party’ Lost Dog Tool To Everyone - 2 days ago

Ring is expanding its AI powered “Search Party” feature beyond its own hardware ecosystem, allowing anyone in the United States to tap into its network to help find lost dogs, even if they do not own a Ring camera.

Search Party was introduced as a way to turn Ring’s vast network of outdoor cameras into a community search grid for missing pets. When a dog goes missing, an owner can report it in the Ring app. Nearby outdoor Ring cameras then use computer vision to scan recent and incoming footage for dogs that resemble the one reported lost.

If the system detects a possible match, the camera owner receives an alert. From there, they can choose whether to share relevant video clips with the person who reported the missing dog. The app also lets them contact the owner through calls or messages without revealing their personal phone number, preserving a layer of privacy while still enabling real time coordination.

Ring says the feature has already been reuniting more than one dog per day with its owners, a figure that helped justify opening the tool to a wider audience. Previously, only households with Ring cameras could initiate a Search Party request. Now, anyone using the Ring app can create a lost dog alert that taps into participating cameras in their area.

Company founder Jamie Siminoff has framed the expansion as a way to mobilize entire neighborhoods, not just Ring customers, around a common cause. By integrating the feature with Neighbors, Ring’s community safety and awareness app, the company aims to turn local feeds into hubs for pet recovery as well as crime and safety updates.

To deepen that effort, Ring is also committing resources to animal shelters across the country. The company plans to donate camera systems to thousands of shelters, bringing them into the same network that powers Search Party. The goal is to make it easier to match found dogs entering shelters with owners who have reported pets missing through the app.

Ring already collaborates with animal welfare organizations and says it is open to additional partnerships that could extend the reach of its AI tools. With Search Party now available to non customers, the company is betting that community scale technology can significantly cut the time and distance between a lost dog and home.
