The All Progressives Congress has moved to quell confusion in its ranks, declaring that party members do not need to show evidence of membership dues payment before they can vote in its ongoing primary elections.

The clarification came through a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, following reports that some members were being asked to present proof of financial contributions as a condition for participation.

Morka stated that the party’s rules for the primaries are clear and that every duly registered member of the APC remains eligible to vote, regardless of whether they can produce receipts or other documentation of dues payment at the polling venue.

He explained that the requirement to show proof of dues payment applied only at earlier stages of the internal electoral process and was limited to aspirants seeking party tickets and the party members who nominated them.

According to the statement, those financial compliance checks were carried out during the purchase and submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, as well as during the screening of aspirants, and were never intended to be extended to ordinary members on voting day.

Morka urged party officials, members and stakeholders across the country to disregard any contrary directives or interpretations that might disenfranchise legitimate voters or disrupt the conduct of the primaries.

He called for strict adherence to the party’s guidelines, emphasizing that the primaries must be open to all registered members in order to reflect the will of the grassroots and to enhance the credibility of the APC’s candidate selection process.

The clarification is expected to ease tensions in some chapters where concerns had been raised that financial barriers could be used to sideline certain blocs of voters or manipulate delegate strength in favour of particular aspirants.

By restating that membership registration, rather than proof of dues payment, is the key criterion for participation, the APC leadership is seeking to project an image of inclusiveness and internal democracy as the party moves through a crucial phase of its nomination exercises nationwide.
