As the cost of living continues to increase across Nigeria, many young people are refusing to sit back and wait for jobs that may never come. Instead, they are turning simple talents and everyday skills into small businesses that help them earn income and support themselves.

From baking and fashion design to bead making, hair styling, thrift clothing, photography, graphic design, and content creation, Nigerian youths are proving that creativity can become a source of survival. What started as hobbies for many has now become a reliable means of making money.

Across campuses and communities, students are balancing lectures with entrepreneurship. Some sell snacks during school hours, while others advertise products through WhatsApp, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook. Social media has made it easier for young entrepreneurs to reach customers without owning a physical shop.

Many students say the rising prices of food, transportation, and educational materials have pushed them to become more financially independent. Instead of depending completely on parents or guardians, they are creating opportunities for themselves.

Twenty-year-old Esther, a university student, started baking cakes from her hostel after learning through online tutorials. She explained that she initially baked only for friends during birthdays but later realized there was a growing demand.

> "I never imagined baking would become something that pays my bills. Now I save part of what I earn and use the rest for school expenses," she said.

Another student, David, runs a small thrift clothing business. He purchases affordable clothes in bulk and sells them online to fellow students. According to him, consistency and good customer service have helped him grow his business.

Experts believe this growing culture of entrepreneurship among young people is a positive development. It not only helps individuals become self-reliant but also contributes to reducing unemployment by creating small-scale economic activities.

However, the journey is not always easy. Many young business owners struggle with limited capital, unstable electricity, high transportation costs, and poor internet connectivity. These challenges often reduce profits and make business operations difficult.

Despite these obstacles, many remain determined. They believe that patience, hard work, and continuous learning will help them expand their businesses in the future.

Economic analysts also encourage young entrepreneurs to improve their financial management skills. Saving profits, keeping proper business records, and learning digital marketing are considered important steps toward long-term success.

The rise of youth-owned businesses reflects a generation that is adapting to difficult economic realities instead of giving up. While challenges remain, many young Nigerians continue to demonstrate resilience, innovation, and determination.

As the country's economy continues to evolve, entrepreneurship may become one of the strongest tools for empowering young people and creating new opportunities. For many students, every product sold is more than just a transaction—it is another step toward financial independence and a brighter future.
