“Thank You For This”: Cancer Researcher Warns Against Spraying Perfume On The Neck In Twitter Video - 2 hours ago

In the clip, a researcher dressed in scrubs, a hairnet and purple gloves explains exactly why the neck is one of the worst places to apply fragrance. She points to a 2025 review published in Frontiers of Toxicology that examined health risks linked to perfumes and cosmetic products

The review flagged ingredients such as formaldehyde-releasing compounds, phthalates and volatile organic compounds, all classified as endocrine disruptors. This means that they can mimic or interfere with the body’s hormones. Several studies cited in the review connect these chemicals to infertility, respiratory problems and, in some cases, cancer.

Why the neck is a particular concern The researcher raises two specific concerns about spraying fragrance on the neck. The first is inhalation: when you spray, you breathe those compounds directly into your body. The second is absorption. The neck has one of the highest concentrations of blood flow in the body, and the skin there is thinner than in many other areas, which means chemicals can penetrate more deeply and enter the bloodstream faster.
