🎓 First Day at University: I Mistook the Dean for a Security Guard 😭 It was my first day at university, and I was determined to act like I belonged. New backpack? Check. Pen I’d probably never use? Check. Face full of confusion but trying to act confident? Double check. As I arrived, I saw this older man standing near the faculty building, wearing a plain shirt, no tie, hands behind his back. I figured, “Ah! Security man. Perfect. Let me ask for directions.” I walked up to him with full confidence and said: “Good morning, sir! Please, where’s the Mass Comm department? I’m new. God bless you for your service!” The man blinked. I added, “You people are trying oh! This sun is not easy at all.” He smiled and said, “Follow me.” I followed him—chatting the whole way. “How long have you been working here? Do they give you guys free water? Because this sun can peel skin.” He didn’t say much, just nodded. We reached the building, and he opened the door for me. I entered. Everyone inside stood up immediately. “Good morning, sir!” they chorused. I turned back slowly… the "security guard" I had been running my mouth to? It was the DEAN. THE DEAN OF THE FACULTY. I nearly evaporated on the spot. I wanted the ground to open up and admit me without JAMB. The man just looked at me, smiled and said: “Next time, observe before you assume.” Moral of the story: On your first day, everyone is either a lecturer… or the Dean in disguise. 🫠 —
