The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers who had been on its wanted list for months, following a coordinated operation in the Mubi area of the state.
Police spokesman SP Suleiman Nguroje said the suspects, identified as Abdulhamid Salihu, also known as Baban Anty, and Bello Yahaya, also known as Baban Yambiyu, were tracked down by operatives of Operation Sanity, a special anti-crime squad deployed to tackle violent offences in the state.
According to the command, the arrests stemmed from a violent robbery reported in the Unguwar Kara area of Mubi, where a resident, Mustapha Ali, was allegedly attacked in the early hours of the day by a four-man gang. The assailants were said to have inflicted injuries on the victim before dispossessing him of cash and other valuables.
Nguroje explained that sustained intelligence-led operations by officers attached to Mubi South and Mubi North divisions led to the location and arrest of the two suspects, while two other alleged accomplices remain at large.
Items recovered from the suspects include several mobile phones believed to have been stolen, jewellery, handbags, travelling bags and weapons allegedly used during the robbery. The police say the exhibits will form part of the evidence in the ongoing investigation.
The command added that efforts are being intensified to track down the fleeing members of the gang and dismantle any wider network connected to the suspects. Investigators are also probing whether the arrested men are linked to other unresolved robbery cases in Mubi and surrounding communities.
The Adamawa State Police Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining targeted operations against armed robbery and other violent crimes, assuring residents that security agencies are working to improve safety across the state. It urged members of the public to continue providing timely information that could assist in the arrest of criminal elements.
