Slow down, my child,
I know you want to rush to do the next thing,
to crawl, walk, then run so fast you feel the air in your hair,
to be more independent,
and to find yourself in this world.
But for a mom,
the days are going by way too fast.
Because from the day you were born, life became busier,
more chaotic,
days turned into nights,
𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳 and 𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘳,
and I haven’t gotten a second to breathe
Slow down, my child,
even on the days I wish away.
The ones where frustration fills my entire body,
someone is always crying,
the laundry is overflowing,
and there are endless piles of dishes in the sink.
Because after I put you to bed, I’m smiling, scrolling the baby photos of you on my phone.
So, slow down, my child.
I know I’m the one rushing you most days,
out of the house and to school before the late bell rings,
to extracurricular activities, you're interested in exploring,
to an appointment after school,
or home to feed or change your crying siblings.
So, slow down, my child,
because there’ll never be enough time spent with you.
