Peter Obi’s Former Running Mate Declares 2027 Presidential Bid - 3wks ago

Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, who served as the Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate alongside Peter Obi in the 2023 elections, has officially announced his intention to contest the 2027 Nigerian presidential election.

Speaking at a rally at the Labour Party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Baba-Ahmed emphasized that his decision to run is rooted in a long-standing aspiration and not a reaction to recent political shifts within the opposition.

His declaration comes amid efforts to reorganize the Labour Party’s structure after Obi’s move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), a separation that has sparked debate over the future of the opposition landscape.

In his address, Baba-Ahmed reaffirmed his commitment to the Labour Party, insisting he will not follow Obi into the ADC and remains focused on offering Nigerians a credible alternative to the ruling party.

He also underscored his belief in the Labour Party’s platform and his readiness to bring fresh leadership to the country’s highest office, even as internal party realignments continue to shape the lead-up to the 2027 polls.
