About the life and times of Jesus and his disciples. Adapted from the four Gospel books of the Bible which tell the story of his birth, life and death through the varying viewpoints of the writers of the 4 canonical gospels.
Created by Dallas Jenkins
Starring Jonathan Roumie as Jesus
I first heard about it from Sunday Ekeh. I got curious and surprised cause I’ve never heard about it before. The only Jesus movie I had seen was The Passion of the Christ (2004). I’ve had The Chosen on my system for years. I decided to watch just one episode early this month, that’s how I cleared the entire 4 seasons in a week o.
Is it possible to faithfully represent the story of Christ on screen? without watering down or conforming it to suit the modern times? were my thoughts exactly.
Then in episode one, they said, “The Chosen is based on the true stories of the gospels of Jesus Christ. Some locations and timelines have been combined or condensed. Back stories and some characters or dialogue have been added. However, all biblical and historical contexts and any artistic imagination are designed to support the truth and intention of the scriptures. Viewers are encouraged to read the Gospels.”
I said Ok o but after watching it, truly I would say they supported it how best they could. It is not easy creating a storyboard from the Bible. They put in some serious research and thought into this project.
The Chosen, Jenkins pet project – an idea he says he received from God, who he claims told him, “My people deserve good stuff” was crowdfunded.
It evoked thoughts and feelings in me. Some stories I’ve read about in the bible came to life literally. You might find some plot and characters relatable cause I did as the teaching and healing ministry of Jesus unfolds.
The healing of the man at the pool of Bethsaida and his connection to Simon the zealot, Mary Magdalene’s salvation ark, the healing of the woman with the issue of blood, Peter and Thomas’s struggle with faith and other outstanding plot lines. When Jesus healed Shula and Barnaby (One of my favorite scenes)
I’ve seen The Chosen and I loved it. It’s a “see it for yourself” cinema piece.
Jesus is for everybody.
I recommend and I also recommend reading the bible for yourself!
Very important.
