The Bailiwick of Jersey has agreed to repatriate more than $9.5 million in funds identified as the proceeds of corruption to the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, under a Memorandum of Understanding signed in December 2025. The amount, held in a Jersey bank account and ruled by the Royal Court in 2024 to be likely derived from a corrupt scheme involving diverted government monies, will be channelled into critical infrastructure development, specifically targeting the final stages of the Abuja–Kano Road project.
The move builds on a long-standing cooperation between Jersey and Nigeria, which has already seen over $300 million in recovered assets returned to support major Nigerian projects like the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and the Second Niger Bridge. Officials from both sides described the repatriation as evidence of effective international collaboration against illicit financial flows, with assurances that the funds will be used transparently and in line with the terms of the executed agreement.
