A Nigerian woman who recently left her marriage less than four years after her lavish wedding has given a fuller account of the alleged abuse she says began long before she walked down the aisle.

She first drew public attention when she revealed that her then fiancé allegedly poured hot tea on her face during an argument before their wedding. Despite the incident, she returned to him, accepted his apology and continued with the wedding plans. She has now shared screenshots of their chats in which he promised never to hit her again, telling her he would rather keep malice than resort to violence. In the messages, she thanked him for the promise and still went ahead with the ceremony.

According to her, the tea incident was not isolated. She claims he once beat her and locked her out of the house in Ogun State, forcing her to travel overnight to Imo State. He later apologised, and she says she forgave him and resumed preparations for their wedding.

Inside the marriage, she alleges the abuse escalated. She says he forced sex on her while she was still bleeding after childbirth, describing it as non-consensual and deeply traumatic. She also accuses him of neglecting his financial responsibilities to their children. When the children fell ill and she begged for money, she claims he demanded that she meet him in a hotel and sleep with him first. She says she agreed out of desperation, only for him to allegedly record the encounter and share it with others. She has posted what she says are chat screenshots to support her account.

Even after she left, she alleges, the harassment continued. She shared an audio recording of a man banging on her door late at night, claiming it was her estranged husband insisting on entering her room under the pretext of seeing the children. In another disturbing incident, she says she woke up around 1 a.m. to find him on her bed, having entered the house while she slept and removed her underwear. Terrified, she says she stayed outside until morning.

Reflecting on the relationship, she says she finally realised she had “married rubbish” when she went through his phone and discovered that women he tried to pursue repeatedly turned him down. She recalls once believing she was “special” because he told her no relationship of his had lasted more than two months before her. Now, she says, that history feels like a warning she ignored.
