Nigerian singer Sola Allyson has thrown the entertainment industry for a loop by distancing herself from the gospel artist label that has clung to her for years. Appearing on Oyinmomo TV, the “Eji Owuro” crooner didn’t hold back, she made it absolutely clear that she is “a singer,” NOT a gospel artist, sending fans and the industry into a frenzy of speculation.
Allyson, celebrated for her spiritual and soulful tunes, says she’s tired of being boxed in. “I don’t sing religious songs,” she insisted, switching languages for emphasis. Allyson argued that although her music uplifts and inspires, it does NOT fit the gospel mold people want to force on her.
But the drama didn’t stop at her music. Allyson took things up a notch by undercutting a staple of gospel songwriting: mentioning Jesus. According to her, “Jesus didn’t say we should be mentioning His name… He didn’t say we should use His name for PR.” With this, she’s thrown shade at industry practices, hinting that name-dropping religious figures is just a gimmick for attention.
If you thought that was all, think again. In a move that has set social media abuzz, Sola Allyson dropped a bombshell about her marriage. Despite being married, she and her husband don’t even live together! “He stays in his house and I also stay in my house,” she declared, calling out the “happily ever after” myth sold by older generations.
Shooting down old-school ideas, Allyson explained that marriage should be about partnership, not ownership. “Saying I am in my husband’s house is different from saying I married my husband,” she boldly stated, challenging the very language Nigerians use about marriage. She says the idea of a woman ‘belonging’ in the man’s house only reinforces male dominance.
On feminism, Allyson continued her controversial streak, claiming, “Feminism is not saying men are not good people… the choice that men have to do whatever they wish should also be given to women.”
Sola Allyson’s shocking admissions are turning heads everywhere. Her refusal to be labeled as a gospel artist is rattling the music industry, and her unconventional marriage and outspoken feminist views are sparking heated discussions about the state of relationships in Nigeria today.
