As he walked into their shared apartment, Abigail looked up from her coffee, concern etched on her face.

"Hey, where were you last night?" she asked, her voice laced with a hint of worry.

He hesitated, feeling the guilt rise up again. He had been out with someone else, and he knew he needed to come clean.

"I... uh... I was out with friends," he stammered, trying to sound convincing.

Abigail raised an eyebrow. "Friends? You didn't mention anything about plans last night."

He shifted uncomfortably, knowing he was digging himself a deeper hole.

"Just a spontaneous thing," he said, trying to brush it off.

Abigail looked at him skeptically, but let it drop. For now.
