I sat on the couch, staring into space, my mind crowded with a thousand thoughts I couldn't even make sense of. One thought led to another, and before I knew it, my head was full.
Then, one thought stood out.
Pray.
Immediately, I questioned it.
"Pray? About what?"
"How do I even pray about this?"
"That sounds silly."
If I wanted to pray for something, I knew what to say.
"God, thank You."
"Lord, please provide for me."
"Help me with this."
But pray about this?
It didn't make sense.
Yet the thought wouldn't leave.
Pray about it.
I ignored it.
Again it came.
Pray about it.
I argued with it.
"God, how do You expect me to pray about something like this?"
Still...
Pray about it.
Finally, I gave in.
After all, what did I have to lose?
So I sat down.
And I prayed.
Funny enough, it wasn't one of those prayers where I was asking God for something specific. I simply started talking. I poured out every thought exactly as it came into my mind. No filtering. No big grammar. No carefully arranged words.
I just talked.
The more I spoke, the lighter I felt.
It was as though every sentence took a little weight off my chest. By the time I was done, the burden I had carried for hours was gone.
And then it clicked.
I finally understood something my Sunday school teacher had said years ago—that prayer is simply communicating with God.
It doesn't always have to sound "spiritual."
It doesn't have to begin with, "Our Heavenly Father..."
It doesn't have to end with, "In Jesus' name."
Sometimes, prayer is simply saying,
"Lord, I don't even know what I'm feeling."
"God, I'm confused."
"Please help me."
"I'm about to cook. Please help me not to burn this food."
"Lord, I'm about to write this exam. Help me remember what I've read."
"God... I think I have a crush. Please help me know if this is even worth my time."
It may sound funny to us, but nothing is too small for God.
Every moment can become a prayer.
I think we sometimes forget what it truly means when we call God our Father.
A father listens.
A father welcomes.
A father doesn't expect his child to have perfectly arranged words before speaking.
He simply wants his child to come.
God isn't waiting for you to pray the longest prayer or use the biggest words. He isn't measuring how "spiritual" you sound. He simply wants you to talk to Him.
So today, if your mind is crowded with thoughts you can't explain...
If something feels too small, too embarrassing, or even too silly to pray about...
Pray about it anyway.
Because I discovered something that day.
Sometimes, the miracle isn't that your situation changes immediately.
Sometimes, the miracle is that the burden leaves your heart the moment you place it in God's hands.
So... just pray about it.
