I THINK I CAN, SO I WILL

When I was younger, my mom always roasted groundnuts at home. Anytime she called me to watch and learn, I’d shrug it off. “Is it not just to put it on fire and keep turning? What’s the big deal?”

Fast forward to when I started living on my own, I saw raw groundnuts in the market and thought, “This is my chance. I’ll roast it and prove to my mom that it’s not that hard.”

I parboiled, dried, and confidently set the pan on fire—already imagining the proud phone call I’d make to her afterwards. But by the end of my “experiment,” more than half the groundnuts were burnt beyond recognition. My excitement turned to disappointment in seconds.

When I finally called my mom, she laughed and said, “So you see now? You thought it was easy. Roasting groundnut is not about rushing—it’s about patience and knowing the process.”

That day, she patiently took me through every step until I got it right. Today, I can confidently say I’m a proud roasted groundnut maker.

The lesson?

👉 Never underestimate a simple process. If it were truly that easy, everyone would be doing it.

👉 And above all, listen to those who’ve walked the path before you—sometimes their “little” instructions are the very keys to success.
