The Nigerian DJ Association has ordered a temporary blackout of Burna Boy’s music across clubs, lounges and events, following an alleged altercation between the Grammy-winning star’s camp and popular disc jockey DJ Tunez at a private event in Lagos.
According to eyewitness accounts shared online, tensions reportedly flared inside a nightclub when a disagreement between Burna Boy’s team and DJ Tunez escalated into a physical confrontation. Multiple people were said to have been involved, with DJ Tunez allegedly assaulted during the incident.
In response, the Nigerian DJ Association issued a strongly worded statement instructing its members in Nigeria and the diaspora to remove Burna Boy’s songs from their playlists while the matter is investigated. The body framed the decision as an act of solidarity with DJ Tunez and a stand against what it described as discrimination and disrespect toward DJs.
The association stressed that its priority is the welfare and dignity of its members, declaring that all DJs are equal and must be treated with respect regardless of their background or location. It invoked the language of human rights, arguing that equal justice, opportunity and dignity must begin within the DJ community itself if they are to have any real meaning.
The statement urged DJs to remain united, professional and vigilant at events, and called on communities to reject prejudice based on class, creed, sect, religion or gender. It emphasized that the industry cannot thrive if any segment of its workforce feels threatened or marginalized.
As part of its response, the association announced that Burna Boy’s music is to be taken off member playlists “till further notice,” pending the outcome of a “thorough investigation” into what transpired between the artist’s entourage and DJ Tunez.
The group also appealed for tolerance and mutual respect between performers and DJs, noting that both sides are essential to the success of live shows and nightlife culture. It framed the dispute as a test of the industry’s commitment to fairness and accountability.
Burna Boy’s management has yet to issue an official response to the association’s directive or the allegations surrounding the nightclub incident.
