Wike Assigns New Contractor To Take Over Struggling Road Project - 2wks ago

The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has taken a dramatic step by re-awarding the long-delayed Apo–Karshi Road project to S.C.C. Nigeria Limited, dismissing the previous contractor, Kakatar Engineering Limited, amid growing frustration over years of inaction.

Wike's announcement follows a direct inspection of various road projects, revealing just how far behind schedule the Apo–Karshi Road has fallen since it was initially awarded in 2011 for a whopping N6.4 billion. What was supposed to be a 20-month project has now dragged on for an appalling fourteen years without completion!

Previously, Wike had expressed skepticism about the previous contractor’s ability to deliver, citing political interference as a key issue. “I still have my doubts,” he said, highlighting a crisis of confidence in a project that he called “very dear to us.” Now, in a shocking twist, he has confirmed, “We have terminated that contract,” emphasizing the urgency with which this new contract was awarded.

While inspecting the site, Wike proclaimed, “If you go there now, you’ll see they have started work,” signaling a fresh commitment to tackling this pressing infrastructure need. This road is not just a project; it’s a lifeline for many residents, and Wike seems determined to finally get it done!

In addition to the Apo–Karshi Road, Wike is also initiating a new project to link Kubwa to the Bwari Area Council, further solidifying S.C.C.’s role in transforming the area’s infrastructure. “We cannot continue to play politics when it comes to the welfare of the people,” he declared, underscoring the urgency of these developments.

Looking ahead, Wike made a significant announcement regarding his future plans: no new projects will be initiated in 2026, a politically charged year. Instead, his administration will focus on completing existing projects. “Next year, what you see in 2025 will be nothing compared to what you’ll see in 2026,” he promised, alluding to a potential shift in political dynamics.

The question remains, will this new contractor finally deliver, or is it just another chapter in the saga of stalled infrastructure? Stay tuned as we monitor Wike’s progress on these critical projects that promise to reshape the community!
