The Federal Ministry of Education in Nigerian has adopted a new and different curriculum for the 2025/2026 academic year, reducing the number of subjects across primary, junior secondary, senior secondary and technical technical pathways to reduce the stress on students and prioritize handy skills.
This new strategy is meant to meet Nigeria's diverse needs as it gets rid of the overcrowded syllabi. It focuses on practical learning like coding, agriculture and entrepreneurship to prepare students for the current job market.
State ministries are tuning it to reflect local contexts and ensure relevance from Lagos to Borno. By removing unnecessary subjects, the curriculum created more time for better learning in core areas like literacy and STEM. This is more likely to guarantee graduates who are more job ready and innovative.
With this also, parents will save more from those unnecessary cost of textbooks, teachers will have clearer objectives and students will face lesser pressures. All these expected outcomes prove these changes to be a more concise, impactful step towards a better education system for the future.
