Understanding Subtext in Literature II
Subtext can be present in different forms depending on the context of the scene or narrative.
One common type is emotional subtext, which occurs when characters express feelings indirectly through their actions, tone, or restrained language instead of openly declaring them.
Another type is social subtext. This can be noted when conversations between characters carry deeper implications about power, class, culture, or relationships that are not openly stated.
There is also thematic subtext, where the deeper message of the story unfolds gradually through symbols, recurring images, or a narrative patterns rather than through direct explanation.
Subtext beautifies writing by allowing multiple layers of meaning to exist simultaneously.
