In the heat of summer.
The sun shining over our heads
As we sat on the bench at park grooves
We had just purchased ice cream cones
At this point it was dripping from our hands
As we had been talking for so long
The heat of the sun or our love melted the ice.
With the ice melting over my hands
I knew it was time for the ice breaker
Time for the question I always had in mind for some months now
The question that could ruin this friendship
Or create a relationship.
Yet lifting up my head I saw your gaze pierce through my eyes
Thoughts ran through my head
If you knew what I thought at that moment
Before I could say anything
You went ahead and said
I have a boyfriend now
I was stunned had to keep my cool
Then I asked for how long and you said for some weeks
Now I'm left thinking was I just someone to keep you company
For awhile so when you are ready for something serious I cease to exist.
Now my heart is beating faster and faster
Like I had just been chased by the grim reaper
I felt like Garfield when death came for him
Just full of myself so delusional I guess.
