Oliseh Warns of Tough Group but Backs Nigeria to Finish Top

Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has cautioned that Nigeria will face a serious challenge in their group, stressing that teams like Uganda are no longer pushovers.

In an interview on Brila FM, Oliseh noted that Uganda’s early arrival in Morocco for preparations shows clear intent and planning. He said this level of readiness means they are coming to compete, not just to make up the numbers.

Oliseh pointed out that Nigeria’s recent World Cup qualifying performances have given other teams confidence. He referenced the Super Eagles’ struggles against Zimbabwe and South Africa, including the defeat to the South Africans, as reasons why opponents now believe they can get results against Nigeria.

According to him, Nigeria used to rely on its reputation to win matches before kickoff, but that advantage is gone. He warned that no team will surrender easily, making the group highly competitive.

However, Oliseh expressed optimism, insisting that despite the challenges, Nigeria still have what it takes to rise above the competition and finish top of the group.

In a recent development, New Super Eagles invitee Tochukwu Nnamdi has spoken about the pressure that comes with playing for Nigeria’s national team, describing it as demanding but motivating.

In his remarks, the young star said representing the Super Eagles carries great responsibility, noting that he understands the hard work and sacrifice required to reach such a high level. He acknowledged that the pressure is heavy, but stressed that he is ready to embrace the challenge.

Nnamdi added that his focus is on proving his quality and fighting for the team whenever called upon. He expressed optimism about Nigeria’s chances, saying he hopes the Super Eagles can go on to win the  Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
