Manchester City Sign Semenyo From Bournemouth For £64m - 3wks ago

Manchester City have completed the signing of Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo in a deal worth up to £64 million, bringing one of the Premier League’s most explosive attackers to the Etihad Stadium as they strengthen for the second half of the season.

The Ghana international joins the champions for an initial £62.5m, with a further £1.5m in performance-related add-ons. He has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract that runs until 2031, underlining City’s belief that he can be a long-term pillar of their attack.

Semenyo has been registered in time to feature immediately and could make his debut in the FA Cup, with City still competing on multiple fronts. He will also be available for the Carabao Cup semifinal, adding another high-intensity option to Pep Guardiola’s forward line as the fixtures pile up.

The 26-year-old arrives in Manchester on the back of a breakout spell at Bournemouth, where his blend of power, pace and direct running turned him into one of the most difficult wide players to contain in the league. Operating mainly from the right but comfortable across the front line, he has already shown he can hurt top defences with both goals and relentless pressing.

In the first half of the current campaign, Semenyo scored 10 goals in 20 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth, a return that placed him among the division’s most productive wide forwards. His form drew attention from several top clubs, but City moved decisively once it became clear he was available at a price they were prepared to meet.

Director of football Hugo Viana described Semenyo as City’s primary attacking target and praised both his mentality and his trajectory. The club’s recruitment staff had tracked him closely since his early days in the English game, noting his steady improvement in decision-making, end product and tactical understanding.

Semenyo will wear the No.42 shirt, a number that carries particular resonance at City after being worn by Yaya Toure during one of the most successful eras in the club’s history. The choice adds a layer of symbolism to the move, linking a new arrival from Africa to one of the club’s modern icons.

For Semenyo, the transfer represents a dramatic rise from his early years in the lower leagues and his development through Bristol City and then Bournemouth. His journey has been marked by persistence and incremental improvement rather than instant stardom, a profile City’s hierarchy often favour when identifying players who can handle the demands of their environment.

Speaking after the move was confirmed, Semenyo described joining City as a source of immense pride. He referenced watching Guardiola’s side dominate English football and conquer Europe, and said the chance to work under the Catalan coach at this stage of his career felt like an ideal next step.
