The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the 2025 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, sending waves of relief, excitement, and anxiety across the country. This year’s release follows the Council’s renewed commitment to timely processing and delivery of examination outcomes, much to the delight of candidates, parents, and schools.
According to WAEC, over 1.7 million candidates sat for the examination across Nigeria, with a commendable increase in the percentage of students who obtained credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics. The Council reports that 81.5% of candidates achieved this benchmark—an improvement from the 79.4% recorded in 2024. WAEC also revealed that candidates can now check their results online via the result-checking portal using their smart identity cards or e-PIN vouchers, a system that has simplified the result retrieval process for millions of candidates.
While many students are celebrating the outcome of months of hard work and late-night study sessions, the release also brings a fresh wave of decisions—university admissions, post-UTME screenings, and future career planning. WAEC further noted that results of 10.8% of candidates are still being withheld due to suspected cases of malpractice, pending investigation. The Council continues to urge students and schools to maintain exam integrity and uphold ethical conduct during future assessments.
As the country digests the 2025 WAEC results, the broader conversation around education quality, exam standardization, and digital access to educational services remains critical. Congratulations to the successful candidates—you’ve cleared a major hurdle, and your journey is just beginning.
