UK Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch has sharply criticised Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s decision to formally recognise a Palestinian state, calling the move “absolutely disastrous.”
Badenoch argued that the recognition sends the wrong signal at a time when Hamas remains active, warning that it effectively rewards terrorism while failing to address the plight of hostages or civilians caught in the conflict. She insisted that such a step should only follow genuine progress in peace negotiations.
The opposition leader also accused the Labour government of misplaced priorities, saying that domestic issues like the National Health Service, immigration, and youth unemployment are being sidelined for what she described as “empty symbolism.”
Recalling past decisions under Starmer’s leadership, including controversial reparations and territorial handovers, Badenoch suggested the recognition reflects a pattern of poor judgment that could weaken Britain’s global standing.
She further warned that the decision risks undermining peace efforts in the Middle East, predicting it would deepen divisions rather than resolve them. According to Badenoch, “this reckless choice is one the UK will come to regret.”
